About this location
The original location — a single orphanage that became a nationally exceptional boarding high school.
BG Ruiru is where it all began. What started as a small orphanage in the 1980s grew, through four decades of commitment, into Kenya’s most distinctive boarding high school for vulnerable children. The change in form reflects a change in understanding: that shelter alone is never enough, and that education — real, sustained, socially supported education — is what actually changes a child’s trajectory.
125+ students live and study on one campus. Social workers are present every day. Three meals are served daily. The 98% KCSE national examination pass rate has been maintained every year since 2015.

That pass rate is not accidental. It is the consequence of building a school around what children actually need to learn — which includes emotional stability, consistent adult relationships, and freedom from financial anxiety alongside the curriculum. BG Ruiru is the proof of concept for that philosophy.

School fees & KCSE

All secondary costs and national examination registration

No student at BG Ruiru pays a fee. No student has ever been withdrawn from an exam because of cost. That is a deliberate, non-negotiable commitment — not a conditional benefit.
Boarding accommodation

Safe campus accommodation including school holidays

For students whose home situation is unsafe, BG Ruiru provides accommodation during holidays. That provision removes a significant source of anxiety and allows students to focus on their education without dreading the end of term.
Social worker support

Daily access to qualified social workers — every school day

Not occasional. Not crisis-only. Every school day, qualified social workers are on campus and accessible to every student. That consistency is what makes the pastoral care at BG Ruiru genuinely effective.

History

How this location came to be.

Every milestone here was a response to a specific failure of the previous approach — not a plan, but a series of decisions to do better.

Sponsor a child at BG Ruiru

Every child at BG Ruiru arrived without the means to access secondary education. Your €65/month changes that permanently.
