About this location
The original location — a single orphanage that became a nationally exceptional boarding high school.
BG Ruiru is the original BG location, approximately 30km from Nairobi. What began as a small orphanage in the 1980s grew, through four decades of commitment, into Kenya’s most distinctive boarding high school for vulnerable children.
125+ students live and study on one campus. Social workers are present every day. Three meals are served daily. The 98% KCSE national examination pass rate has been maintained every year since 2015.

History
How this location came to be.
Basic residential care. Shelter, food, and primary education.
When the orphanage faced closure, Ria Fennema assumes management and moves to Kenya permanently. Structured programs and qualified Kenyan staff follow.
BG builds its own secondary school. Small-scale, socially supported. 98% pass rate maintained every year since.
Dormitory expansion and ICT facilities are current priorities. Alumni now work as doctors, engineers, and teachers.
